Old Southendians v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 02 May 2026 at 12
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets.
Match report
Oakfield Parkonians CC endured a frustrating afternoon as their total of 193 was comfortably chased down by Old Southendian & Southchurch CC, who secured a seven-wicket victory with ten overs to spare.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Oakfield Parkonians would have been hoping to set a challenging target, but their innings never fully gained sustained momentum.
The early loss of Paresh Kalley for just 1 set the tone, and although Bilaal Anwar and Ryan Karunakaran attempted to rebuild with a stand that took the score to 55, both fell in relatively quick succession. Anwar’s 23 and Karunakaran’s 22 were promising but lacked the authority needed to dominate the bowling.
The middle order showed brief resistance, particularly through Manoj Sarathchandra Dinayadura, who struck a fluent 21 from 19 balls, and Eshun Kalley, who played the standout innings of the day for Oakfield. Kalley’s 41 off 43 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six, injected some impetus into the innings and helped guide the side past the halfway mark with a platform to build on.
However, regular wickets continued to interrupt progress. Paran Kalley laboured for 16 from 34 balls, unable to accelerate, while the lower middle order failed to convert starts into significant contributions. Sifth Ali provided late entertainment with a quickfire 23, striking two fours and two sixes, but by then the innings was nearing its conclusion. Oakfield were eventually bowled out for 193 in 38.2 overs, a total that felt slightly below par given the conditions.
The bowling effort from Old Southendian & Southchurch was disciplined, with Rishabh Dixit the pick of the attack. His economical spell of 2 for 17 from eight overs, including three maidens, applied crucial pressure through the middle overs. Dylan Batt also made key breakthroughs, finishing with 3 wickets, while Prasann Shukla and Henry Williams chipped in with two apiece.
In response, Old Southendian & Southchurch approached the chase with composure after an early setback. Shaurya Singh fell for 13, but Jack Potticary anchored the innings superbly. His unbeaten 42 from 90 balls may not have been flashy, but it provided the stability around which the chase was built.
Matthew Darvill briefly shifted momentum with an aggressive 26 off just 13 balls, but his dismissal at 56-2 gave Oakfield a glimmer of hope. That hope was short-lived, as Dan Cooke and Potticary steadied things before Cooke departed for 23.
The decisive partnership came between Potticary and Ahsan Yousaf. While Potticary continued to play the anchor role, Yousaf unleashed a match-winning innings. His unbeaten 76 from 63 balls, featuring 12 fours and three sixes, was a commanding display of controlled aggression. He punished anything loose and ensured the required rate never became an issue.
Oakfield’s bowlers struggled to apply consistent pressure. Eshun Kalley, Prajen Kavinkumar, and Ryan Karunakaran each picked up a wicket, but the lack of breakthroughs and some expensive spells allowed the visitors to cruise home. The target was reached in just 30 overs, underlining the gap between the two sides on the day.
In the end, Oakfield Parkonians were left to reflect on missed opportunities with both bat and ball, while Old Southendian & Southchurch delivered a clinical all-round performance to seal a convincing victory.
