It’s official — Oakfield Parkonians’ 4th XI are going up again. A commanding seven-wicket win away at Old Brentwoods CC secured back-to-back promotions, capping off a remarkable run that has seen the side climb through the divisions two years running.
A Chase Built for the Occasion
Having elected to field first after winning the toss by the standing captain Chamara Jayawardane, Oakfield’s bowlers set the by set tone. Old Brentwoods never truly got a foothold, slipping to 27-4 inside the first quarter of their innings as Mazhar Minhas and a probing spell built around Sohail Malik’s overs did the early damage. Nikhil Roy-Mukherjee was the pick of the attack, choking the scoring at just 1.89 an over (9-4-17-2), while Jigar Manubhai Desai and Samay Bhattacharjee chipped in with two wickets apiece to keep Old Brentwoods honest throughout.
A late rally from Ahmed Yasir (36), supported by a spirited cameo from Mohammad Umar Javaid (23 off 23 balls), dragged the hosts to a fighting 159 all out — but with Oakfield’s batting in this kind of form, it was never going to be enough.
Statement Chase
If there was any lingering pressure around a promotion-deciding fixture, Oakfield’s top order didn’t show it. Mark Gager (15) and Aadhithya Premkumar (17 off just 16 balls) raced out of the blocks, laying the platform before both departed in relatively quick succession, along with Terry Ranjith (5).
That’s when the game was put firmly to bed. Arayaman Parida produced the standout innings of the match — an unbeaten 50 off 46 balls, studded with 10 boundaries — batting with the kind of freedom that only comes with a side playing on the front foot all season. He was well supported by Amar Desai, calm and composed for an unbeaten 39 off 55, and together the pair steered Oakfield home at 160/3 with a full 20 overs to spare — finishing the chase in 23 overs to Old Brentwoods’ 43.
Job Done
The seven-wicket win wraps up a season to remember for the 4th XI. Back-to-back promotions is no small achievement — it takes squad depth, consistency, and the kind of clinical performances the side produced today: disciplined bowling to restrict a competitive total, followed by a chase led from the front by the bat.
A huge credit to everyone involved this season — on the pitch and off it. Two promotions in two years is a serious achievement for a 4th XI, and this Old Brentwoods win was the perfect way to make it official.
