Match report Oakfield Parkonians were denied victory in a high-scoring thriller against Westcliff-on-Sea, with Umesh Jinka writing his name into club folklore by scoring his second consecutive century — a remarkable achievement that carried Parkonians to a commanding total of 301.

Having struck 115 against Harold Wood last week, Umesh Jinka stepped out and did it all over again — this time an even more commanding 116 off 105 balls, 17 fours, at a strike rate of over 110. Back-to-back centuries is a rare feat at any level of cricket, and the dressing room will be rightly celebrating one of their own producing such a purple patch of form at such an important stage of the season. Akhil Patel was superb in support, contributing a fluent 71 off 69 balls — 13 fours — to forge a partnership that put Westcliff firmly on the back foot. Ali Khan then produced a stunning cameo to close out the innings, crashing an unbeaten 39 off just 18 balls — 2 fours and 4 sixes — at a strike rate of over 216 to give Parkonians' total a truly formidable look. Support by Fazan Habib, continuing his finishing form with a brisk 22 off 14 balls, while Simon Mather Snr. was Westcliff's most successful bowler with 2 for 52. Parkonians closed on an imposing 301 for 6.

Westcliff's reply was far from straightforward, and there were moments where Parkonians looked certain to force a win. Bob Curtis was outstanding, anchoring the innings with a determined 104 off 135 balls — 14 fours — to keep Westcliff in the hunt deep into their reply. Saurabh Bedi launched a swift 39 off just 31 balls to provide early impetus, and Daniel Pickett's late cameo of 33 off 25 balls ensured Westcliff had enough in the tank to see out the overs. Upender Sanga was once again Parkonians' most reliable and economical bowler, finishing with 2 for 52 from 16 overs — his 2 maidens and consistent accuracy proving crucial in stemming the flow of runs. Bijay Basnet contributed 2 for 50 with 3 maidens from 9 overs, and Fazan Habib chipped in with the key wicket of the dangerous Sahil Sidhar. Vysan Srividyanandan claimed the important scalp of Curtis to give Parkonians a sniff, but Westcliff finished on 275 for 7 from 47 overs — bloodied but unbowed, and ultimately denying Parkonians the outright win their batting deserved.

This was a good draw, despite when a win felt possible, this cemented the foundation for a promotion push — there is still plenty to take from this performance. The headline belongs to Umesh Jinka — back-to-back centuries is the kind of form that wins promotions, and if he can continue anywhere near this level, Parkonians will fancy their chances in every game that remains this season.
