Match report A commanding batting display gave Oakfield Parkonians the better of a tightly-contested timed fixture against Gidea Park & Romford, though the visitors held firm in their reply to secure a draw that Parkonians will feel was there for the taking.

Parkonians' innings was built on a series of solid contributions throughout the order. Ali Khan and Umesh Jinka provided a positive start before falling to Freddie Rawlings and Dushyant Joshi respectively. Akhil Patel then anchored the middle overs with a resolute 49 off 74 balls, including 9 fours, falling agonisingly short of a well-deserved half-century. Upender Sanga added a breezy 23 off just 23 balls to maintain the tempo. The innings, however, belonged to Gowtham Sanga. Batting with elegance and authority, he compiled an unbeaten 84 off 106 balls — 10 fours and a six — and held the innings together from start to finish. Aren Parmar, at the other end late in the innings, contributed a mature 24 not out to help Parkonians reach 278 for 5. Dushyant Joshi was the standout bowler for Gidea Park with 3 for 60 from 16 overs.

Set a challenging target in the overs remaining, Gidea Park's response was never truly about winning — it became a question of survival. Sarosh Elahi gave them the most positive start, striking an attractive 60 off 73 balls including 11 fours and a six before being smartly stumped by Alan Bouquet off Praven Sureshen. Bijay Basnet was the pick of the Parkonians attack, returning an impressive 2 for 34 from 11 overs including 4 maidens on his return to the side, while Upender Sanga was his usual picture of consistency with 1 for 35 from 14 overs — 5 of them maidens. Despite the regular fall of wickets, David Croker proved an immovable obstacle, grinding out an unbeaten 49 off 83 balls with admirable determination. Dushyant Joshi added 20 before being caught, but Croker and Henry Griffin held firm in the closing overs. Gidea Park finished on 184 for 5 from 45 overs, never threatening the target but never in danger of losing either.

Parkonians will leave this one with mixed feelings. A total of 278 and a bowling performance that generated regular wickets should have been enough to force a result, but credit must go to Gidea Park for their dogged resistance — particularly Croker's rearguard. On the positive side, the batting showed real depth and Bijay Basnet's return was an encouraging one. The ability to push for an outright win in timed cricket is a skill that will need to be sharpened as the season progresses.
