Match report The 2nd XI produced an emphatic performance against Old Brentwood on Saturday, securing a comprehensive eight-wicket victory.

Captain Krishan Dilipkumar lost the toss and Old Brentwood elected to bat first on a pitch that looked primed to offer some turn for the spinners.

The innings got off to a flyer for Parks. Osman Choudhry bowled with superb control and accuracy, picking up two early wickets to reduce Old Brentwood to 17-2. A counter-attacking knock of 47 from Asad Khan threatened to take the game away from the side, as he struck some imperious shots through the leg side, even endangering the parked cars. However, the ever-dependable Tanay Shetty (4-64) continued his fine form and claimed the crucial breakthrough just as Khan looked to accelerate. Aman Ali was equally fantastic, bowling tightly, varying his pace excellently, and extracting plenty of turn to finish with 4-44. Although Sayaad Hussain batted patiently for his 52, his dismissal by Tanay caused the innings to meander, eventually petering out to 178 all out within 42 overs. This left Parks with a generous 53 overs to chase down the target.

The reply began brightly with Faisal Bhatti and Neil Brathwaite finding the boundary with ease, before Brathwaite was unfortunately run out. Viraj Khagram then continued his brilliant form from a fortnight ago against Old Southend & Southchurch. He smashed a scintillating 61 off just 29 balls, including 10 boundaries, to ensure there would only be one outcome. Khagram was superbly supported by Bhatti, who anchored the innings with an unbeaten 62 off 60 balls, while Aman Ali provided the final flourish with a quickfire 35 off 27. Their efforts saw Parks chase down the total in just 23 overs, winning with 30 overs to spare.

This fantastic victory will inject plenty of confidence into the side as they travel to Wickford next week, looking for another win to close the narrow gap at the top of the table.
