Match report On another warm afternoon, skipper Krishan Dilipkumar won the toss and elected to bat on a surface that looked challenging and likely to deteriorate in the second innings. The goal was to replicate the team’s strong performance from the previous week against Old Southend & Southchurch.

The innings began solidly, if unspectacularly, with an opening partnership of 31 between Krishan and Faisal Bhatti before the captain was bowled. Faisal, however, dug in and batted beautifully on a tough wicket to compile a well-made 38. After two quick wickets fell at the other end, Parks found themselves at 84 for 4. Neil Brathwaite battled hard for his 26, punishing the rare loose ball while running brilliantly between the wickets for sharp singles. When he fell with the score on 127 for 5, the innings threatened to peter out.
Instead, a superb partnership between the ever-impressive Suryasankara LN and Gowtham Sanga propelled Parks towards a competitive total. Surya played with class and poise for his 64, intelligently changing gears and finding the boundary at crucial moments to continue his fine run of form. Gowtham was equally adept, recording his maiden league half-century for the 2nd XI, with surely many more to come. Batted with style and aggression, he thumped seven boundaries and made the fielders toil in the heat. With the score at 222, Parks declared to give themselves 48 overs to bowl out South Woodford.

The second innings could not have started better. Selvam Ramasamy clean-bowled the South Woodford opener with his very first delivery. Selva was magnificent in his opening spell, tearing through the top order to leave South Woodford reeling at 20 for 3, with all three wickets falling to him.
However, South Woodford captain Ace Khan had other ideas. Khan anchored the innings with a sublime 73, pacing his knock magnificently and knowing exactly when to accelerate. He was ably supported by Syed Gilani, who struck an equally resilient 51. As the overs ticked down, the game headed toward a tense finish with all three results still on the table. Ultimately, South Woodford managed to clinch victory with just an over to spare.

Amongst the bowlers, Tanay Shetty bowled well to claim three wickets and keep Parks in the hunt. The pick of the attack, though, was undoubtedly Selva, who finished with fantastic figures of 5 for 82 after giving the team the perfect start.

While it was not the result the 2nd XI wanted, the match still yielded a valuable 11 points. The side will look to sharpen up in the field for future fixtures, as several dropped catches proved costly in a game that could have easily gone the other way.
