Oakfield Parkonians CC produced a commanding all-round performance to secure a convincing 105-run victory over Goresbrook CC after posting an imposing 269 all out from their allotted 50 overs.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Oakfield’s innings did not begin according to plan. Early wickets left them under pressure at 2–1 and then 84–2, with B Anwar dismissed cheaply and S Chaudhry falling without troubling the scorers. However, from that point onward, the innings was rebuilt superbly through a combination of patience and controlled aggression. The foundation of the total came through a magnificent century from R Karunakaran, who anchored the innings with a superb 118 from 129 deliveries. Displaying excellent timing and composure throughout, Karunakaran struck 15 boundaries and rotated the strike effectively to keep the scoreboard moving. His innings ensured Oakfield remained in control despite regular breakthroughs. Karunakaran received strong support from M Dinayadura, who played positively for his 44 from 43 balls, helping lift the tempo through the middle overs. The pair’s partnership stabilised the innings and laid the platform for a late acceleration. Further impetus came from N Sureshan, whose aggressive 59 from just 57 deliveries added valuable momentum in the closing stages. Contributions from V Khagram (17), P Kalley (7), and T Bhatia (10) helped push Oakfield to a competitive total of 269, despite a cluster of wickets late in the innings. For Goresbrook, S Barwick was the standout bowler, finishing with excellent figures of 5–84 from 16 overs and repeatedly finding breakthroughs. K Messenger claimed two wickets while V Mahal and K Yelari chipped in with one apiece.

In reply, Goresbrook made an explosive start thanks to opener A Ahmed. His blistering 58 from just 35 balls, featuring seven fours and two sixes, briefly gave the visitors hope as they raced out of the blocks. However, once Ahmed departed with the score on 72, Oakfield tightened their grip on proceedings. The chase quickly unravelled under disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. S Ali struck twice to remove key top-order batters, while T Bhatia delivered a decisive spell, taking 3–20 in six overs and applying sustained pressure through the middle phase. R Karunakaran completed an outstanding all-round display by adding three wickets to his century, finishing with figures of 3–39, while N Sureshan also impressed with 2–25. Goresbrook never managed to build significant partnerships, with only P Singh offering late resistance through a brisk 26. Eventually dismissed for 164 in 35.1 overs, Goresbrook fell well short of the target as Oakfield wrapped up an emphatic 105-run victory. A dominant batting display led by Karunakaran’s century, backed up by a disciplined bowling effort, earned Oakfield a deserved 25-point haul.
