Hornchurch Athletic CC v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 09 May 2026 at 12
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report Oakfield Parkonians started the league season by cruising to a dominant nine-wicket victory after chasing down 185 with more than ten overs to spare.

OPCC won the toss and elected to bowl first. Early wickets immediately placed pressure on the top order. Dave Rai was trapped lbw by Sifth Ali for six, before the other opener followed shortly afterwards after being pinned in front by Eshun Kalley.

Number 3 and 4 attempted to rebuild the innings with a steady partnership. Both looked composed during the partnership. The pair guided Hornchurch to 74 before Ryan Karunakaran broke through, bowling Samarasekera, before removing Telemaque shortly after to swing the momentum firmly back in OPCC'sfavour. The innings then slipped into difficulty. Oakfield’s bowlers tightened their grip and picked up wickets regularly . At 93 for 7 in the 29th over, Hornchurch were in danger of being bowled out for a very modest total.
However, a spirited lower-order fightback restored some respectability to the scorecard. Fazi Hussain counterattacked impressively, striking 37 from 41 balls with six boundaries, showing positive intent when wickets had been tumbling around him. Alongside him, Nathan Duke anchored the latter stages superbly with an unbeaten 39 from 50 deliveries. Their partnership lifted Hornchurch beyond 150 and gave the hosts a target that at least offered the bowlers something to defend.
Oakfield’s bowling performance was consistently disciplined throughout. Ryan Karunakaran was outstanding with 2 for 29 from his ten overs, while Taranpreet Bhatia and Prajen Kavinkumar each claimed two wickets.

In reply, Oakfield Parkonians produced a composed and commanding chase. Nathan Duke provided Hornchurch with early hope when he bowled Paresh Kalley for 13 to leave the visitors 28 for 1. From there, Bilaal Anwar and Ryan Karunakaran batted with complete control, combining patience with timely aggression to take the game away from the home side. Anwar compiled a calm unbeaten 80 from 135 balls, anchoring the chase expertly, while Karunakaran played the more attacking role with a stylish 80 not out from just 81 deliveries, including 11 boundaries.
Hornchurch’s bowlers battled hard but were unable to create sustained pressure or force further chances. However, Oakfield’s second-wicket partnership steadily wore down the attack and guided the visitors to victory in the 40th over.

It was a very good start to the league season and the boys hope to continue this good form next week against Shenfield
