Match report OPCC 5th XI lost to Redbridge CC 4th XI by 3 wickets away at Clayhall Park - 26th July 2025
With several regular players unavailable, OPCC 5th XI suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a strong Redbridge 4th XI in a one sided encounter at Clayhall Park.
Parks skipper won the toss and elected to bowl first on a green pitch under overcast conditions. However, the Redbridge openers came out aggressively, putting together a rapid 78 run partnership within the first 10 overs. Skipper Saleem Ahmed played a blistering knock, scoring 51 off just 30 balls before being brilliantly caught at slip by Mazam Ali. Ali Syed, coming in at No. 3, capitalised on a few chances and went on to score 61 before being run out by Aryan Chavan, whose fielding throughout the game was exceptional and deserves special mention. While the opener Muhammad Ahmad (51) anchored the innings, building solid partnerships with the middle order, Redbridge continued to pile on the runs, helping Redbridge post a daunting total of 318 in their allotted 40 overs. Parks bowlers struggled for consistency, allowing the opposition to dominate throughout.
In reply, Parks started cautiously with openers Mark Gager and Idrees Ali. Unfortunately, Gager was dismissed in bizarre fashion, as the ball trickled onto his stumps and dislodged the bails. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and Parks struggled to keep up with the steep required run rate, eventually being bowled out for 148 in 36.3 overs. Idrees Ali top scored with 31. For Redbridge, Usman Qamar was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets for just 13 runs in his 6 overs.
Parks will need to regroup quickly and come back stronger in the remaining fixtures to finish the season on a high. With the right mindset and team spirit, a turnaround is certainly within reach.
