Match report OPCC 5th XI secured a dominant 107 run victory over Harold Wood 6th XI on a sweltering summer afternoon at home.
Parks Skipper won the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat on a dry wicket. Despite the early loss of wickets, a composed and patient partnership between Awn Minhas and Fahad Yusaf helped stabilise the innings. The pair guided the team to 105 for 2 at the drinks break, laying a solid foundation. Momentum shifted quickly after the interval, with both Minhas (60) and Yusaf (39) falling in quick succession. However, the middle order responded in style. Poornasai Vanam and Nimanka de Silva took the attack to the Harold Wood bowlers, crafting an entertaining 93-run partnership that featured an array of aggressive stroke play. Vanam was eventually stumped for a well made 67, attempting a big shot off the experienced Harold Wood skipper Ian John. Aman Patel (22) then joined Nimanka de Silva at the crease, and both accelerated expertly in the final five overs, adding 51 runs to end the innings. Parks finished on an imposing 288 for 6 from their allotted 40 overs. Nimanka de Silva’s 73 was a key contribution in middle order partnerships.
In reply, Harold Wood stumbled early, losing an opener in just the second over to a sharp caught & bowled from Idrees Ali. A promising stand between Joel Baker and the talented youngster Azmain Sikder gave the visitors some hope, but the introduction of Sachin Fing and Mark Gager swung the match decisively in OPCC’s favour, claiming three wickets each, dismantling the middle and lower order.
Despite valiant efforts from Baker (71), Sikder (40), and Imran Khan (23) the visitors were dismissed well short of the target all out for 181.
It was an excellent performance from OPCC 5th XI with both bat and ball but need some improvements in fielding though! Parks now looks to host a tougher opponent Redbridge CC 4th XI next week..
