Match report 4th XI beat Fives and Heronians by 6 runs

Oakfield Parkonians 4th XI came out on top in a thrilling contest, edging past Fives and Heronians by just 6 runs in a match that went right down to the final over.
Batting first after winning the toss, Oakfield put up a strong total of 241 all out in 38.3 overs. The innings was built around some solid middle-order batting, with Umesh Jinka leading the way with a classy 50 off 46 balls. He was well supported by Chamara Manoj Jayawardana (49 off 52) and Siddharth Barua (47 off 53), who both kept the scoreboard ticking nicely. Ayaan Usman also chipped in with a handy 36 at the top of the order.
Although a few wickets fell quickly at the back end, the team’s aggressive intent paid off, setting Fives and Heronians a challenging target.
In reply, the hosts made a real fight of it, finishing on 235 for 2 from their full 40 overs. The standout performance came from Gary Edwards, who carried his bat with a brilliant unbeaten 120 from 129 balls. He held the innings together superbly and was ably supported by R Allum, who made 55, and M Rashid Hussain, who added a quick 28 to keep the chase alive.
But it was Oakfield’s outstanding fielding effort that made the difference. The energy and excellent ground work across the park kept the pressure on and helped close out a tense win.
With this result, Oakfield Parkonians pocketed the full 20 points, while Fives and Heronians took away 8. A cracking game of cricket all round, and a fantastic team performance from Oakfield to seal a very satisfying win.
