Match report Oakfield Parkonians 3rd XI travelled to Wanstead & Snaresbrook for a high-scoring contest, coming up just short in a 4-wicket defeat. Captain Fazan Habib won the toss and elected to bat first on a wicket that looked dodgy at best, but ended up producing one of the biggest accumulative totals of the season.

Umesh Jinka was once again in fine touch, compiling a fluent 82 off 90 balls with 13 boundaries, holding the innings together through the early stages. He was well supported by Fahad Yusaf, who played with control and power to score 83 off 97 balls, finding the boundary 10 times and clearing it once. Late acceleration came from Fazan Habib himself, striking a quick 46 not out off 37 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes, pushing the total to an imposing 288 for 5 from the allotted 50 overs.

The defence started brightly with Zain Mohid making an early impact, removing three top-order batters to finish with 3 for 77 from 12 overs. However, Wanstead’s Salman Syed played the match-defining knock, an unbeaten 125 off 111 balls, supported by Yuvraj Singh (56) and Habib Marfani (51). Despite wickets from Samay Bhattacharjee (1 for 47) and the skipper himself (2 for 35), Parkonians couldn’t stem the flow of runs as Wanstead chased down the target in 44.1 overs.

While the result didn’t go Parkonians’ way, the batting effort was a major positive, with multiple players converting starts into substantial scores. The focus now turns to tightening up in the field and maintaining pressure throughout the second innings to turn strong positions into wins.
