Fresh from a convincing win against West Essex, Oakfield Parkonians hosted another home game to face Hadleigh & Thundersley CC – a side just above them in the league standings and one that had beaten them earlier in the season. Hadleigh won the toss and chose to bat first on a pitch that looked good for batting.

Their opener, Jainil, started aggressively in the powerplay, looking to capitalise on fielding restrictions. However, Oakfield struck early, dismissing the skipper for 0. Jainil continued to score freely before falling for 49, caught by Krishan at mid-wicket off Shahariyar’s bowling, leaving the visitors at 62/3. Shahariyar was the standout in the opening spell, claiming 3 wickets for 38.

Hadleigh’s middle order rebuilt steadily, rotating the strike and punishing loose deliveries. Although Oakfield continued to chip away with wickets, the visitors managed to post a challenging total of 277/8 from their 45 overs. Zain returned strongly in his second spell to claim 3 wickets, while Nikhil and Bijay chipped in with one each.

Second Innings – Oakfield Parkonians CC 2nd XI: 283/7 (42.3 overs)

Chasing 278 for victory, Oakfield lost Krishan early with the score at just 4/1. From there, Sarankan and Shahariyar took charge, counterattacking brilliantly and putting together a crucial 130-run partnership. Sarankan’s explosive 76 off just 45 balls gave Oakfield the perfect platform, while Shahariyar supported well before falling for 42.

A mini-collapse followed with Ali Khan (9) and Shahariyar (42) dismissed in quick succession, leaving Oakfield at 162/4 still needing 116 runs. At this stage, Surya and Venkata steadied the chase with a composed 89-run stand. Surya’s valuable 43 anchored the innings, while Venkata played with calmness under pressure.

Even after two more wickets fell late on, Venkata held his nerve and guided Oakfield home with an unbeaten 67, sealing a fine 3-wicket win with 15 balls to spare.
