First Innings – Fives and Heronians CC 2nd XI: 206 all out (49.5 overs)

On a scorching day in Chigwell, Fives and Heronians opted to bat first after winning the toss, aiming to secure maximum points. Their openers started with intent, but an early breakthrough came when Viraj bowled a beauty to dismiss their opener who has been in good form with the score at 36/1.

Viraj and Navneet bowled excellent opening spells from both ends, applying pressure and restricting the scoring opportunities. The Fives skipper played patiently to hold one end but found little support as wickets continued to fall. He was eventually dismissed for 44, courtesy of a well-judged catch by Shahariyar at long-off.

Following the captain’s dismissal, the scoring slowed significantly. The Oakfield bowlers maintained their discipline, and the hosts were eventually bowled out with one ball left in the innings. Navneet was the standout performer, claiming four wickets, well supported by Viraj (2), and one each from Upen, Prajen, and Shahariyar.

Despite lacking major partnerships, Fives and Heronians posted a competitive total of 206 all out in 49.5 overs.

Second Innings – Oakfield Parkonians CC 2nd XI: 210/7 (43.4 overs)

Chasing 207, Oakfield Parkonians made a cautious start on a tricky pitch offering variable bounce — some deliveries stayed low while others reared up unexpectedly. The first breakthrough came early for Fives, removing Shahariyar with the score on board is 24.

Aman Ali joined Viraj to stabilise the innings, but the inconsistent surface made scoring difficult. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with Viraj departing for 22, Aman for 17, and Surya for 7 — leaving the Oakfield Parkonians in a precarious position at 88/4.

Just when Fives began to tighten their grip, in-form Mannan Arora stepped up once again with a brilliant counterattacking innings. Displaying composure and class, Mannan crafted an outstanding 95-run knock, guiding the chase deep into the innings. Though he fell just short of a deserved century, his efforts left OPCC within touching distance at 182/6.

Despite some late nerves, the depth in Oakfield’s batting lineup ensured there were no further hiccups, and the team chased down the target comfortably in 43.4 overs, finishing at 210/7 to claim a 3-wicket victory.
