Old Brentwood v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 09 Aug 2025 at 12.30pm
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets.

Match report Oakfield Parkonians CC claimed a commanding five-wicket victory over Old Brentwoods CC in a high-scoring clash that showcased explosive batting and pivotal middle-order partnerships.

Having won the toss, Old Brentwoods opted to bat first and were immediately put on the back foot. Openers Ahmed Zulfiqar and Abdullah Akbar were both dismissed for ducks by a fiery opening spell from Eshun Kalley, who struck twice early to reduce the hosts to 2/2. However, a steadying partnership between Ramesh Gunalan (55 off 87) and Baber Choudhary (66 off 90) brought stability, adding 117 for the third wicket and guiding Old Brentwoods back into the game. Despite the solid rebuilding, the scoring rate remained modest until the arrival of Rameez Rehman, whose blistering 78* off just 53 balls (5 fours, 6 sixes) turned the tide. His aggressive stroke play in the final 15 overs, supported by a late cameo from Muhib Burki (30* off 13), saw Brentwoods surge to an imposing 270/6 from their allotted 49 overs. Kalley was the standout bowler for the Parkonians, finishing with 3/59 from his 13 overs, while Navine Sureshan claimed two crucial middle-order scalps.

In reply, Oakfield Parkonians endured a shaky start. Saeed Rauff rattled the top order, removing Faisal Bhatti, Paresh Kalley, and Aman Ali cheaply to leave the visitors reeling at 35/3. At that point, Old Brentwoods seemed in control, but the momentum shifted rapidly thanks to an aggressive counterattack from Umar Choudhry (40 off 26), whose flurry of boundaries reignited the chase. The innings truly came alive with a masterclass from wicketkeeper-batter Eknath Kerkar. His unbeaten 127 from just 95 deliveries was the cornerstone of the chase — a mix of classical strokes and calculated aggression that kept the scoreboard ticking. Kerkar was ably supported by Sifth Ali (45 off 57), and the pair added a match-defining 100-run stand for the fifth wicket. Even after Ali’s dismissal, Kerkar continued unfazed, guiding his team home alongside Eshun Kalley (27* off 23) with 10.2 overs to spare.

With this win, Oakfield Parkonians pocket 20 points and will take heart from their strong middle-order depth and clinical finishing.
