Match report OPCC 5th XI lost away to Gidea Park and Romford 4th XI by 120 runs.
Parks once again failed to register a win in their first four games of the league campaign. Parks won the toss and inserted the hosts on a tricky pitch with a saturated outfield and let the opposition off the hook despite brilliant opening spells from Nav Kalley, young Faris Sohail and the first change bowlers Sachin Arora and Aryan Desai kept the opposition at bay as they managed to score 82 for 2 at the halfway of the first innings. Poor fielding and dropped catches let the opposition finish with 207 for 4 wickets in the allotted 40 overs. Nav Kalley was the most successful bowler who took two wickets, conceding 22 runs from 8 overs. Fahad Saad 86 and James Radden 66 both took advantage of drop catches to post a good score on a pitch that played uneven bounce at times.
Aware that 208 was a massive target on the slow pitch, but if we batted out the full allotted 40 overs with confidence , we could successfully chase down the target. Unfortunately, the unfolding events that changed the anticipated plan as Parks faced a formidable challenge after a disastrous start as early as in the second over. Parks found themselves reeling at 6 down for a mere 49 runs after 20 overs. Mark Gager (30)was the only batsman to show gritty resilience against the accurate bowling of the opposition bowlers and to reach a double figure. Parks were bowled out for 87 in 32.3 overs. The opening bowlers Stephen Ashlin and Philip Iron took 3 wickets a piece in their 8 over spells.
