Match report OPCC 5th XI lost to Wanstead 5th XI by 139 runs in their first league played away at London Marathon Playing Fields.
Wanstead 5th XI 212 for 5 in 40 overs; OPCC 5th XI 73 for 10 in 24 overs.

Parks won the toss and elected field in the hope of restricting the opposition on an early season wicket.

OPCC 5th XI started the season with a heavy defeat against a strong Wanstead 5th XI. Parks won the toss and elected to field first. Parks suffered a setback when the opening bowler Nav Kalley sustained an unfortunate injury which kept him out from bowling until late in the innings. Wanstead openers capitalised on average bowling and poor fielding to pile up runs until the breakthrough came when Kalaivanan Palaniandy on his debut bowled Pranav Nair for 51. The opening batsman Rajesh Rajesh and the incoming number 3 batsman Nikil Patel build up another good partnership to bring the total to 126 after 20 overs. After the drinks break, tidy bowling from Park bowlers particularly Nav Kalley (6.3 – 26-1) on his 2nd spell and Shahid Khan(8-41-2) contained Wanstead from scoring a massive total and eventually finishing their innings with 212 for 5 wickets in the allotted 40 overs. Rajesh Rajesh (78) and Nikil Patel (53) played well for were the main contributors to Wanstead total score.

In reply, Parks struggled to keep up the required run rate throughout the innings, as lost wickets in quick sessions and eventually were bowled out for 73 in 24 overs.

A very disappointing start for the 5th XI in their league campaign, but I am positive that we will play well as a team to get to a winning streak.
