Match report OPCC 5th XI beat Gidea Park and Romford 4th XI by 4 wickets at home on Saturday 12th August 23.

Parks second game in two weeks against the same opposition Gidea Park & Romford who won on a close contest in the previous meeting.
Gidea Park skipper won the toss and chose to bat first on overcast conditions. Very tidy opening spell from the experienced Nav Kaley and the young Aryan Desai did not allow Gidea Park & Romford to get any momentum to their innings. Nav Kalley bowled 8 straight overs with 2 wickets and the change of bowling paid dividend as the in-form Shahid Khan trapped the danger number three batsman Fahaad Saad for 26. Skipper Vijayanathan replacing Nav Kalley took a wicket with the first delivery and took further two more wickets in his allotted 8 overs conceding 12 runs. Nilay Tenjura bowled beautifully with his variation and took 2 wickets in 6 overs. Despite a valiant efford by the tail enders Steve Brant (20) and Joe Allison (15) Gidea Park mustered a low par total of 123 in the scheduled 40 overs.
Even though the target was below par on that track, Parks needed to bat sensibly. The loss of early wickets of Ramesh Manikavasakam and number three Sarbjeet Singh brought Kavin Veloopillai to steady the ship with the talented opener young Ibad Usman. Both put on a important partnership of 41 runs before Ibad Usman being the 3rd victim of Gidea park opening bowler Joe Allison. Despite losing Kavin Veloopillay and Sahing Arora (18) in quick succession after producing a match winning partnership of 52 runs, Parks ensured to get over the line in the 30th over winning by 4 wickets. Joe Allison and Brijesh Patel were the only successful bowlers with three wickets apiece.
