Gidea Park and Romford won the toss and elected to field on a pitch that looked under prepared with a few demons. Our opening pair of Ayaan Usman and Waqar Ul-Iman made light work of the pitch and Gidea Park’s opening bowlers as they raced to 50 off just 9 overs, we were looking at a big score. Even when we lost Ayaan for a well-made 22, Waqar continued the momentum and when OP were 79 for 1, it looked like we would make over 200 in quick time but then, as has been the case all too often this season, the wheels fell off and we lost 9 wickets for 38 wickets and were all out for a well below par score of 117. The slower Gidea Park bowlers used the conditions well and J Alison finished with 4 wickets off 14 overs, well sported by Hossain, who took 3 wickets off 6 offers.
However, Oakfield Parkonians were confident they could defend this misery target and got off to the perfect start, taking a wicket off the very first ball and soon had Gidea Park 2 – 2 within 2 overs.It could have been more but for a couple of straight forward dropped catches and then a steady partnership between Aryan Chandel (37) and Jonathon Ashlin (32) took Gidea Park close to their target. But, just like our innings, the slower bowlers made a big impact and almost won the game for us. Shahid Khan used all his experince and gile to take wickets at key stages and finished on 5-1- 19-3 and was well supported by Ayaan Usman (4-0-9-1). However, it wasn’t quite enough and Gidea Park won by 3 wickets, but if we had another 20 or so runs, it could have been a very different story
