Parks 5th XI playing the first league game got off to a good start with a 91 runs win over Belhus 5th XI.
Parks lost the toss and we were duly inserted on a slightly damp, but eminently playable artificial pitch with a slow outfield. In my head I had 150 as being a par score but Parks batsmen had ambitious for more. Openers Ramesh Manickavasagan and Tariq Jameel were looking good before Tariq was adjudged lbw for 12. Waqar Ul-Imanm a veteran re-joining our cub, with his experience of playing cricket at higher level played some beautiful shots put a useful partnership with Ramesh who too played well with his pull shots before both batsmen departing in quick succession. Lakshmi Narayanan coming in at number 4 scored a quick 28 with 2 sixes and put another valuable partnership with Jigar Shah “the new kid on the bock” (15). After Lakshmi’s departure Parks lost wickets at regular interval before Rohan Jeer (9 no) and Sachin Arora (50no) put on a match winning partnership of 52 runs in 9 overs. Particular mention to Sachin Arora who played beautifully for his first half century and Nillay Tenjura (13) a promising colt was looking good with his batting technique and composure. Overall we were satisfied with a score of207 for 8 at the end of the 40 overs.
Afra Rose Mohamed, an Essex under 15 player was the pick of the bower for Belhus, took 3 wickets for 38 runs in her allotted 8 over.
At the restart, Belhus had marginally better conditions, however this mattered little as the Parks bowing and fielding were absolutely a top rate and everyone played their part with an excellent effort at this level. Nillay Tenjura came in to bowl when Belhus were 103 for 5 in 26 overs and took 4 wickets for 7 runs in 3 overs including the Essex U15 player who top scored with 27. Shahid Khan took the last wicket to give Parks a 91 runs win.
