Match report 4s Drew with Upminster 5s

Parks' skipper won the toss for the away fixture and chose to field first on a warm yet cloudy day. The opening bowling pair, comprising Manicks Shankar (14-3-40-5) and Danyal Abbas (10-2-42-1), applied early pressure with accurate deliveries consistently. Danyal, in particular, troubled both openers with his pace and bounce. As the pressure mounted, both Upminster openers succumbed to Shankar one being trapped LBW and the other caught at point. Shankar, went on to take his first 5 wicket haul of the season. First-change bowlers, 'Jay' Janeban Selvamohan (8-1-38-0) and Ibad Usman (3-0-18-2), maintained the pressure effectively. Ibad's two crucial early wickets and Jay's pace bowling with prodigious away swing were noteworthy, although Jay was unfortunate not to claim a wicket. At the drinks break, Parks had a firm grip on the game, restricting Upminster to 51-5. However, after the break, Upminster staged a comeback with a 120-run partnership for the 6th wicket, eventually reaching 217-8 within the allocated 45 overs. Parks' fielders were successful in taking six catches out of the nine opportunities offered by the opposition.

In response, Parks started their innings cautiously against the accurate and youthful Upminster bowling attack. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals and found themselves struggling at 60-4 after 20 overs. Nevertheless, a brilliant and entertaining partnership between Akhil Patel, returning to the team at number 3 (65, including 10 fours, with a strike rate of 73), and Santron Thivaharan at number 6 (53, comprising 5 fours and 2 sixes, with a strike rate of 121), kept Parks in contention. While Akhil played a composed top-order innings, Santron unleashed his aggressive batting style, relentlessly attacking the bowlers and forcing many fielders to the boundary line. Parks concluded their innings at 182-7, securing a draw and earning 6 points.

Once again, Parks came close to victory but fell short. Nonetheless, there are positive aspects to take from this game in all three disciplines, and we remain hopeful that their luck will change in the upcoming matches, leading to that elusive Time-Game win.
