Match report OPCC 4s lost to Old Brentwoods 3s by 2 wickets

Parks travelled to Brentwood to face OBCC for the first full league game of the season. Parks lost the toss and asked to bat on an artificial pitch and a wet outfield. Conditions were not ideal for bating and OBCC bowlers took full advantage and wickets started to tumble early on and Parks found themselves 20 for 4 at the 10th over mark. Number four batsman Amar Desai dropped anchor and formed a solid partnership with young Aryan Desai (no relations) to put on a partnership of 90 which was the backbone of Parks’ innings of 141-9 in 40 overs. Amar (60) batted patiently for 30 overs to accumulate the precious runs while young Aryan (30 not out) provided ample support on the other end. For OBCC Ahmad Qureshi bowled exceptionally well to take 4 for 15 in his 8 overs.

Knowing 141 is still a competitive total on that pitch, Parks went to filed with a passive mindset. Parks opened the attack with skipper Manicks Shankar and Aryan Desai. Both BOCC openers Richard Bray and Ben Loader are known for playing attacking cricket and Loader in particular has scored multiple centuries in the past. Richard Bray played some attacking shots and looked to take the game away early on. However introduction of debutant Satish Chaudhari made the break through to remove Bray (27) when Santron Divaharan took a juggling catch at long-on. Satish (8-1-19-2) bowled exceptionally well to keep the runs down from one end.

Introduction of Kaj Skandamoorthy (3-1-14-1) provided immediate results when Manicks Shankar took a sharp catch at mid wicket to remove the Ben Loader for 26. From that point forward Parks took regular wickets and OBCC found scoring difficult against a good motivated fielding unit. Parks pushed OBCC all the way to the end but OBCC managed to get over the line with 2 overs to spare with 8 wickets down. For Parks other notable bowling performances came from Manicks Shankar (8-0-23-3) and Gurmit Bhatia (7-0-21-1).

For Parks, lack of 1st innings runs lead to the disappointing start to the season. Parks need to brush up the early season rustiness quickly to face the upcoming stronger opponents.
