Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI v Benfleet on Sat 08 Jul 2023 at 12.30pm
Match was Drawn Drawn.

Match report After last weeks win against Aztecs, it was now time for the second half of the season to start, with the bad weather around and still in the timed games, skipper Paran Kalley won the toss and elected to bowl first. The opening bowlers started well and bowled with control and got the ball to move. However, 2 interuptions in the first innings meant Benfleet got a total of 41 overs to bat and Parks got 37 to chase down the 185 scored by Benfleet. The pick of the bowlers was once againt Muhammed Zareef (14-2-55-5) picking up his second 5fer in consecutive weeks and proving his worth with the ball. As an off spinner to get 5 wickets in conditions that didn't benefit him was a big effort from him and credit goes to Adil for being able to hold an end and bowl well in the middle and death overs.

Knowing we had 37 overs to chase the 186, the Parks batsmen were confident of getting the runs with no more rain scheudled and the pitch still being very good, it was going to be a good chase for the boys. Faisal Bhatti (60*) and Bilaal Anwar (44) controlled the game well for Parks. They rotated the strike well and were giving the batsmen behind them the platform to be able to chase down the total with ease. Needing 60 runs and 12 overs left, the boys were growing increasingly confident of chasing down the target. However, a big cloud lingered over the square and it seemed as though another unexpected rain shower was going to affect the game for a third time. With the rain falling the hardest it had all day the players had to come off for 14 minutes meaning 4 overs were lost as a result of it. This meant that the scenerio had changed from needing 55 from 10 to needing 55 from 5 overs with the run rate more than doubling. Faisal retired not out to let one of the more aggresive batsmen come in but it was always going to be an uphill battle. It wasn't easy for the batsmen to come in and try and go at 11 an over espeically with 9 men on the line and this meant we lost wickets cheaply and therefore had to settle for a draw. It was a disappointing outcome as the boys were controlling the game so well but it was unfortuantely a result that felt like a loss. The boys go again next week with another home game against Horndon on the hill.
