Match report On what was a glorious day weather wise, OPCC Under 12’s hosted the much-anticipated Quarter Finals match of the Brian Taylor cup against top-dog’s Wansted CC. Winning the toss, OPCC chose to bat first.



Captain Suryasankara and Rian Parmar opened batting confidently, to produce a strong opening partnership of 50+ at decent run rate which saw off Wansteds’ opening bowlers. Rian got dismissed by Ayan Safdar and was replaced by the talented Yuv Janeja who continued with Surya’s spectacular performance (81 of 54 balls) to create a further 50+ partnership, in which three smashing 6’s were produced. In the final 10 overs, Wansted clawed back by restricting the final score to 179 runs in 30 overs, by taking wickets consistently.



OPCC started their bowling attack with Fast and Spin combination. In the second over of the match, Surya bowling leg spin produced a stunning caught and bowled to dismiss one of Wansteds’ dangerous opener. Second wicket swiftly followed in the fast bowling of Yuv Janeja in the 3rd over. Pace was not slowed, when Manish and Rian were bought into attack, taking wickets in 7th and 10th overs. With Wansteds’ backbone slowly breaking early on, OPCC continued to maintain pressure with some high-quality bowling on a hot day. Vyasan, added to the mix after a much-needed drinks break, bowling 4 overs and taking 2 wickets for 16 runs. Rian conceding only 12 runs in 5 overs, took a second wicket and the match was completed with Ayans’ final wicket where Wansted were all out; 135-10 in 27 overs.



For a match of such high calibre for this newly formed team, under tough weather conditions of extreme heat; whom most have never experienced, the whole team produced an outstanding performance – resilience, determination, and support for each other. Next stop - semi-finals……
