Match report Winning the toss, Parks skipper invited the home team to bat first. Opening bowlers Manicks Shankar and Nav Kalley made inroads straight away by taking a wicket each to reduce the opponents to 10-2 after 5 overs. Gurmit Bhatia took an impressive low catch at first slip off Shankar’s away swinger and Nav clean bowled the number 3 batsman for a duck. However hard-hitting opener Cameron Kennet (73) and veteran all-rounder Marlon Jayasekara (29) came together to frustrate the bowling attack for the next 15 overs with the help of a very fast outfield.
Aryan Desai (6-0-24-1), Gurmit Bhatia (8-0-42-2) and Maran Mariyathas (8-0-24-1) bowled well to keep the runs down and to pick up the occasional wickets. However it was Hassam Jamil on his first outing for the 4ths this year made the damage by taking 4 wickets for 22 to wrap up the tail with the help of some impressive catching in the outfield by a diving Maran and Syed Muttaqeen. Gidea Park ended their innings for 172 all out.

In reply, Parks tried a new opening partnership in veteran Amar Desai and his younger nephew Aryan Desai Jr (U13). Both took their time to settle in and played exceptionally well to put to on a fist wicket parentship of 86 in the first 19 overs. Inform Amar batted with patience and fluency to score a well crafted 88. Young Aryan Desai Jr impressed with a matured innings of 26. When Aryan departed on the 19th over, newly promoted Thomas Varnes at number 3, with an injured finger, was a in a hurry to finish the game and to hit the bar and hit a sparking 36 in no time to see the side home with 8 overs to spare.

Another satisfying victory on the back of an all-around team performance by the young and the old players. The 19 extras given away (2nd week in a row) was a concern and something we need to work on for the upcoming games. The match was played in good spirits by both sides.
