Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost By 1 run

Match report Oakfield Parkonians 3s had a new captain (Bhavik) this week. Parks won the toss and chose to field, both Sachin (9-1-41-1) and Yash (9-0-41-1) started off well but the home team openers played cautiously and were hitting boundaries in regular intervals. A run-out from Kaj broke the opening partnership but Wickford were set for a big score at drinks break (107-1 in 23 overs). After the drinks break, parks have come back strongly picking up wickets at regular intervals, Young colt Prajen (9-0-26-2) bowled beautifully with full control along with Chetan (7-0-30-2) and Nimanka (5-0-26-0) who was unlucky to not get a wicket. Home team were restricted to 215-7 (45 overs) which parks felt was chasable on a decent batting track.

In reply, parks have started off fluently with both openers Bhavik (22) and Chetan (25) looking in good form. Then came the home team spinners who bowled beautifully and created a mini havoc, suddenly parks lost 7 wickets in quick succession, few batsmen were unlucky to get caught of a full toss deliveries. Then came the rebuild from no.5 Nikhith (106) and no.9 Nimanka (40) who batted beautifully, restructuring the innings, with proper defence to the good balls and punishing the bad balls. Nimanka fell after a well-made 40. Meanwhile, Nikhith reached to his first hundred for the parks, an amazing innings under pressure.

It was down to 4 runs required from the last over with Nikhith being on strike, parks believed a win is very much possible. But a run-out of the first ball in last over while trying for a suicidal double meant parks needed 3 of 5 balls with only 1 wicket remaining. Nikhith got bowled trying for a big shot and that was it. A hard fought and very close game which didn’t go parks way, but lots of positives to carry on to next games.
