Epping v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 23 Jul 2022 at 12.30
Match was Drawn

Match report After last weeks brilliant win against Horndon, Parks knew a win today and they would be within touching distance of the top 2 places. Parks lost the toss and Epping elected to bat first, the pitch seemed like there might be a little in it for the bowlers but the small boundaries were something to be weary off. Epping got off to a slow start, the Parks bowlers bowled some beautiful lines and made it hard for the Epping batsmen to score. Ravi Teja (16-2-60-3) was the pick of the bowlers. He bowled with great control and lines and got the ball to turn and bounce and picked up crucial wickets at big times in the game. Other than Ravi, the rest of the bowling was pretty ordinary, Parks found themselves in dominant positions in the game but let the game drag away from them. Conceding 114 runs in the last 10 overs wasn't great from a bowling perspective and this allowed to Epping to get to a total of 281 of their 50 overs. It will be harsh to say that this was all down to horrific bowling as the Epping batsmen did bat well, but if we better executed our plans we may have been chasing 230/240 instead.

The chase didn't get off to a good start losing two wickets within the first 8 overs. But Umar Choudhary (101) and Ravi (69) batted superbly together. Putting on 150 for the third wicket they put the attack right onto the bowlers. Umar played an innings of a lifetime, some of his cover drives, back foot punches and even flicks through midwicket was something to admire, it was a true pleasure to be there to witness a great 100. He was well supported by the ever present Ravi who yet again added another 50 to his tally this year as he continues to gun the division. Some cameos from Paresh Kalley (34) and Aman Ali (23) meant that Parks were within touching distance of the 282 total needing just 8 runs of the last over. However, only having 3 wickets in hand meant that all 3 results were still possible going into the final over of the game. The win was within sight, but losing 2 wickets in the first two balls of the final over meant that Parks still needed 8 but with 4 balls remaining and only 1 wicket in hand. Needing 7 off 3 Parks thought it was best to play out for the draw and not allow Epping to win. It was such a tough result to take considering how close we were to the total and given we had 5 overs less than them it was a really good effort from the lads. Promotion is still on with 6 games to go and Parks have not given up just yet.
