Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI v Horndon-on-the-Hill on Sat 16 Jul 2022 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets.

Match report After last weeks victory against Leigh-On-Sea Parks looked to get another win this week against Horndon-On-The-Hill. After the excellent weather we have had this week both skippers would have wanted to bat first. Horndon won the toss and that's exactly what they did. Parks got of to a good start picking up some early wickets. The pitch was one that turned and bounced and meant the spinners were in the game from ball one. Ravi Teja (16-2-56-2) and Om Thakeria (16-0-69-4) were the pick of the bowlers and stood out from the Parks bowling attack. The Horndon batsmen adapted to the pitch well and chasing 211 to win wasn't going to be easy. Especially with Parks history of chasing at home, the momentum and history wasn't on their side.

Horndon started of their defence well, Parks lost 3 early wickets and put us on the back foot. But the ever reliable Ravi (59) held the innings together in the middle period. He batted with class and rotated the strike really well. Teja has performed so well for us this season so far and I cannot wait to see him bat every week. When the score was just 120 Parks were 6 wickets down and Horndon looked like they were on top. Paresh Kalley (55*) came to the crease and batted with maturity and aggression. When we lost Ravi there was still well over 50 runs needed and the overs not being very many. Needing 54 off 5 and and only 3 wickets in hand the message was sent for the two batsmen to go for it and for Parks to go for the win. Klain Fernando (27) hit some absolute bombs in his innings. That over went for 22 and Paresh and Klain took their best bowler apart. Klain hitting some unbelievable shots in his innings and really put the momentum back in our favour. But the real stand out was Paresh, he steered the whole innings and comfortably took us over the line. Paresh batted with real maturity and class, this was the best we've seen him bat for some time. Needing 15 from 2 and 2 wickets in hand the game was in the balance. But once again some strong hitting saw Parks with the game by 2 wickets and 4 balls to spare. It was one of the all time great chases and puts Parks back in the hunt for promotion. We now switch our attention to the biggest game of the season against Epping this Saturday.
