Match report After last weeks disappointing defeat to Benfleet, the season now turned to timed games and Parks travelled to Garrons Park to face Old Southendian. Skipper Paran Kalley won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Raihan Hussain and Bilaal Anwar batted well for the first hour of play. They had put a partnership of 60 runs and were looking extremely comfortable. Raihan was the pick of the batsmen scoring 122. He did well to see of the new ball and then went on to dominate the innings. He didn't allow any of the bowlers to settle and looked in really good touch. He was well supported by Umar Chouduhry who scored 53. He was also disappointed not to reach the three figures but he batted well and rotated strike superbly. The wicket was probably the best wicket Parks would bat on all season and the players felt that 260 would be par. A few cameos from the lower middle order meant Parks finished on a total of 283 after our 50 overs. Getting 10 wickets on an absolute road wasn't going to be easy but Parks had to believe they could do it.

The second innings got off to the perfect start with Parks picking up a wicket in the first over. However, from there on out it was hard to try and make breakthroughs. Old Southendians never looked like they would chase the target, but dropping 6 catches from Parks isn't good enough. If they were able to take their chances then the outcome could have been different. The bowlers gave it their all on what was a batsmen friendly wicket and trying to get 10 wickets was always going to be tough. However, this young Parks team learn from this and they now look forward to the game against Westcliff next week at home which sees 2nd play 3rd in the league.
