Match report On a sunny crisp April day, 4ths entertained the regular early season opponents Mathews CC for the first friendly of the season. The weather was fair and the pitch was brand new and untested!

Mathews CC Captain Rory won the toss and elected to field first on a flat track which set the tone for the rest of the match. Parks skipper Shankar wanted to bat first anyway so it was a good toss to lose.

Parks openers George and Bhavik made light work of the Mathews CC’s rusty bowling unit by racing to 100 on the 12th over. Bhavik in particular was in a belligerent mood from the start and sent the balls to all parts and reached his 50 in no time and retired on 78*. George went on to make a well made century (103*) with a 6 over fine leg before retiring. Both batsmen looked very comfortable and played with confidence which is a good sign for things to come this season.

Fazan at 3 and Maran at 4 kept the tempo up with some eye pleasing shots scoring 50* and 42* and retired to make way for the rest of the batsmen with 8 overs to spare. Gurmit showed a glimpse of his attacking instinct but fell for 11 but Bal at number 6 played some lusty shots and finished with 20. Mathews CC did not help themselves and dropped every single catch offered to them! Parks posted a formidable 338-4 after 40 overs.

Parks opened the bowling with Rashmin and young Jamie Bailey. Rashmin removed the opener with his very first ball caught by Sunny at mid off. However their number 2 and number 3 played beautifully scoring 67* and 73 and kept a good scoring rate and was in the game until the 20th over. However they fell 95 runs short in the end scoring 243-6 after 4-0 overs. Parks 4ths regular bowlers bowled well at the depth to keep the run rate low. Wickets were at a premium on a batsman friendly pitch however Gurmit, George and Maran bowled well and picked up 4 wickets between them.

Overall a good first outing and a good win. Most importantly all players had an opportunity to either bat or ball to get some much needed practice before the league starts in two weeks.
