Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 5th XI v Harold Wood 6th on Sat 03 Jul 2021 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Parks hosted a friendly and warm Harold Wood (HW) side to continue its campaign in this year’s league. Parks acting Skipper Sachin won the toss and elected to field first on an improved but still inconsistent pitch at Hainault Recreation Ground. After an hour’s rain delay, the match was reduced to 36 overs for the first innings and 31 overs for the second.

Parks seamers opened the bowling with strong consistent line and lengths, Aryan took the top of off stump with his 3rd delivery. This was suitably followed by Syed. Between them, they helped reduce HW to 41 for 5 by the 17th over.

Despite the consistent fall of wickets, a sturdy rear-guard display by Siddharth (62 not out), punctured with wristy flicks and lofted straight drives, took HW to 121 for 8 after their 36 overs.

In reply, Parks, fielding a side dominated by Colts, lost early wickets finding themselves 3-2 after the HW opening bowler Som (3 wickets in 13 overs) bowled good pace and bounce. At 7-2 after 10 overs, hope for Parks looked like the rain clouds hanging overhead. Cue Amar Desai who again showed why he is an integral part of the 5thXI. An exceptionally well-judged, strong willed 45 saw him steady the ship, striking bad balls with classical drives and pulls.

With the run rate climbing, a team effort saw Inder hit attacking shots while Sai showed determination batting at 4, playing with a composed mind. Parks finding their rhythm, reduced the run rate to a run a ball in the last 10-12 overs. The game had turned into a 20/20 by happenstance and the boys weren’t giving up any more than HW were prepared to lose.

Young Ibad used his feet like a pro against a moving ball to hit shots over mid-on and mid-off whilst Samuel, calm as a mill pond, didn’t flinch under pressure. Great running when needed, and composure beyond their years, saw the future of the club leave Parks needing 5 runs of the final 6 balls. Ibad, pulling over square leg, took Parks to victory with 122-5 with 3 balls to spare. It was an exciting game with credit going to the Colts and also HW, who were an absolute pleasure and a realsporting bunch of players.
