Match report On a damp cloudy day Parks 5s faced Wanstead & Snaresbrook CC 6thXI away. Parks lost the toss and were put in to bat on a slightly spongy wicket with a wet slow outfield.

Opener Samuel Varnes was restricted by the tight bowling, and fell quickly for 2 bringing skipper Bal Diocee to the crease to join Amar Desai. After initially struggling and breaking a bat Bal managed to up the scoring rate and get into his stride - unfortunately playing one aggressive shot too many and falling to a good caught & bowled.

Debutant Ibad Usman's stay in the middle looked promising but he was unlucky to nick off for 3, followed soon after by Sachin Fing to another unfortunate run out. This brought in Inderjit Singh who set about the opposition bowling hitting a number of huge straight sixes with complete disdain for the fielders on the boundary. Vijay was unable to make a large contribution and fell to a fine catch for 2 off the leg spinner.

Youngster Praven was a revelation with the bat making an excellent 28 before becoming another run-out victim. Sadly the other debutant - Aryan Desai, Ashwin and Nav weren't able to make big contributions and thanks to tight and accurate bowling from Wanstead, Parks were restricted to just 156 all out from the full 45 overs. It didn't seem to be enough and would need one hell of a performance in the field if it was to be defended.

Wanstead started their innings steadily if slowly and saw off the opening bowlers Nav and Aryan - who was incidentally playing against his old club and against his father and younger brother. The introduction of Ashwin to the attack immediately brought about the dismissal of Wanstead stalwart Chris Ley to a superb low one-handed catch at 2nd slip by Bal.

Inderjit then executed an amazing direct hit to send back the other opener, and Vijay made a difficult high catch look easy off the bowling of the ever reliable Amar Desai to take one more. Inderji then rattled the woodwork to dismiss the keeper for a duck. Meanwhile the experienced Wahid has been accumulating runs dispatching the bad balls to build a score of 50 not out. He was joined by Samiullah who showed real intent by hitting some big sixes to cow corner to take Wanstead home with almost 3 overs to spare and 6 wickets in hand.

Sadly the Parks bowling lacked penetration and fielding let us down a little - with a couple of crucial drops.

it was not a great day all round with the batting also failing to click properly.

Next week Parks 5s are at home against Fives and hope to put in a much better performance and show that they are genuinely contenders in the division with a point to prove.
