Match report Parks travelled to Shenfield this week for the final of the first round matches. Parks skipper won the toss invited the opposition to bat on a damp and soft pitch due to the overnight rain.

Parks opened the bowling with the two tried and tested pair in Nav Kalley and Manicks Shankar, who interestingly shares over 60 years of bowling experiences between them.

Both opening bowlers bowled with control and accuracy to keep the scoring rate well below par and picked up the top 6 wickets for just 42 runs after 24 overs. Nav in particular was back to his best picking up 5 -19 runs in a marathon 14 overs spell. All 5 wickets were clean bowled. An exhibition of back to basics line and length bowling and one for the books.

First change bowlers colt Praven Sureshen and Yash Patel joined the fun and cleaned up the tail taking 2 wickets a piece. Praven in particular was unplayable at times turning the ball square with his ever developing leg spin. A much improved fielding performance resulted in Shenfield ending their innings with 74 all out after 36 overs. Neal Gilbert top scored with 26 for Shenfield.

In replay, Parks opened the chase with the two young colts Nikhail Roy-Mukherjee and Krishan Dilipkumar. Both started their innings well and played with good concentration on a tricky pitch. Nicki’s vigil came to an end after 10 overs when he was bowled by a in-swinging, fast and accurate yorker by young William Dunleavy, who impressed with his pace and accuracy.

However, Krishan played with style and freedom and with the help of colt Amanjt Sing (9*) completed the chase with a boundary to cow-corner and brought his second 50* for the 4th Xl. Parks won by 9 wickets after 20 overs. Parks are now 3rd in the league with 4 points behind the leaders Walthamstow.
