Match report This was a game that Old Parks needed to win having not won league match this season. Markatis lost the toss and was invited to bat on a lovely looking track. Shane, in his first match, opened with Brathwaite and batted like he had never been away. Shane (45) played some luscious drives and powerful pulls and set a marvellous tempo with Brathwaite, who without being as expansive kept the score ticking nicely. With the first wicket falling at 79, O Parks were in command and scoring at 7an over, V Handa (16) kept the momentum going as did H Markatis. Brathwaite continued accumulating playing some fine shots on his way to 53. At 120-2, after twenty overs, a huge total looked likely, however, with the departure of Markatis (34) and Brathwaite (53) in quick succession O Parks lost momentum. B Mann (21*) and S Skandamoorthy (26) re-built the innings and helped put a decent score of 219 on the board.
Chingford thought they were in with a chance, but got off to a dreadful start thanks to some fine bowling from the openers, T Bhattia (2-30) and Nav Vijayakumar (2-26). Both bowled with pace and accuracy and had the batsmen in all sorts of trouble. With 4 early wickets, O Parks were smelling an early victory. However, Chingford’s middle order got stuck in and were clawing there way back into the game. A stunning catch by D Patel followed by a magnificent runout by Brathwaite changed the match. Mann (1-18) & Skandamoorthy (0-22) bowled well keeping runs to a minimum. D Patel (2-24) & R Ananeraj (1-23) came on and mopped up the tail. 1st victory of the season under our belt was well deserved.
A good performance could have been a very good performance, but for poor ground fielding and poor catching. This must improve if we want to do well in this league.
