Match report It was Parks tenth game in the league and we are now officially half way through the season. We were away to a Benfleet team who just about beat us in the first league game of the season. The start was delayed due to rain and because of the weather it meant that overs were reduced and the team batting first would have a maximum of 41 overs to bat and the team batting second would have a minimum of 38 overs to chase the target. Skipper Paran Kalley won the toss and elected to bowl first. Benfleet got off to a great start and the Parks bowlers struggled to find the right lines and lengths to trouble the batsmen. Other than Selva Ramasamy (16-4-60-5) none of the Parks bowlers could trouble the batsmen. Selva bowled with great control and good pace in conditions that were difficult to bowl in because the ball got so hard to hold and control. Parks just weren't at the races in the field and a few sloppy moments and dropped catches meant that Benfleet got an above par score of 168 runs. This was 20 or 30 more than Parks felt Benfleet should have gotten but nonetheless Parks were confident in chasing the target of 169 in 38 overs.

Benfleet started the second innings of well bowling tight lines and picking up regular wickets. No one in the top 6 other than Ravi Teja (24) stuck around long enough for the chase to be a real option. Parks being 30 for 5 wasn't ideal and meant that Parks had no option but to bat for the draw. Standout with the ball and now the bat Selva was unbeaten on 34. Batted with a mature head and didn't allow Benfleet to get the win and do the double over Parks. This draw means Parks are now starting to fall behind the top 2 in the league and now need to start winning games as soon as possible. It is now a massive game against Gidea Park and Romford next week at home where a win for Parks will mean we will go within 12 points of second place which is being held by Gidea Park at the moment. The fight for promotion isn't over but it won't be an easy task as well.
