Orsett & Thurrock v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 03 Jul 2021 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets.

Match report After last weeks defeat Parks knew that this game was a must win in order to keep our promotion hopes alive. Skipper Paran Kalley won the toss and elected to field first on a pitch that looked as though it would do all sorts for the bowlers. Selvam Ramasamy (16-2-42-2) continued from last week. Beat the bat on many occasions and was unplayable with the swinging ball, his figures don't do him justice as it was a great spell of bowling. He was well supported by Paresh Kalley (12-4-21-3) who bowled with the new ball for the first time this season and picked up 3 early wickets for Parks within the first 10 overs. He made the ball swing both ways and the batsmen struggled to get him away. At 30-4 Parks were asserting their dominance on the game, however, Orsett got a little partnership together and the pitch seemed easier to bat as the game progressed. Orsett soon found themselves reaching 100 and only losing 7 wickets. But Ali Iranpana (12.4-3-39-4) bowled well in the middle and death overs and made sure that Orsett didn't reach anything over 150. Parks were a little disappointed with the second half of the innings as we felt we shouldn't have let Orsett get anything over 100 after having them 30-4. But needing 148 runs to win was very gettable and something that Parks were confident in chasing.

Parks got off to the worst start losing Raihan Hussain on the first ball of the second innings. Then we were 10-2 after Dhruv Patel decided to walk for a ball that he did not edge and things weren't looking bright for Parks as another collapse was on the cards. But Janagan Vijayanathan (50*) and Ravi Teja (85*) put on a partnership of 139 runs and saw the game home for Parks. They both left the ball well and ran hard between the wickets putting pressure back onto Orsett. Ravi being the aggressor of the two made sure that at no point any of the bowlers got on top and put on another magnificent innings for Parks. Janagan batted maturely and controlled the innings well. He kept the scoreboard ticking ad punished the bad balls when given the chance too. This was a great win for the boys and means that Parks are still 28 points of top and 22 of a promotion place. We are now halfway through and only losing 3 games out of 9 in the first half of the season is a great effort from the team. But we know this cannot be repeated in the next 9 if we are to get promoted and close the gap to the top 2.
