West Essex v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 12 Sep 2020 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 13 runs
Match report
Parks 2XI travelled away to West Essex for their last game of the season in hope of finishing off the season on a good note.
Captain Sarankan Skandamoorthy lost the toss and Parks were put in to bat. Openers Shane Vamedevan(8) and Ali Khan(8) started well on what looked like difficult conditions to bat, however some good bowling from West Essex resulted in the downfall of Shane Vamadevan who was followed by Ali Khan. Mannan Arora(12) and Baldeep Mann(28) formed a brief partnership, both hitting crisp shots before Mannan was dismissed. Baldeep played well for his 28, with one huge six and two fours. With Parks really needing a good partnership out in the middle, in came the captain Sarankan Skandamoorthy(60) at number six to play a crucial knock along with Jai Patel(35). After a slow start, we got the impression that Sarankan was clearly in no mood to run between the wickets, with his 50 being brought up with 9 fours and one six. Jai Patel assisted Sarankan beautifully, despite coming in to face a hattrick ball. Matthew Holland(15) and Talha Raja(11) provided cameos to boost the score to 196, a score Parks believed was defendable.
Parks came out with fighting spirit after the tea break and this was met by West Essex’s opening batsman who reached 50 in no time, albeit wickets tumbling all around him. However, tight bowling from Baldeep Mann (8-0-41-2) and Dilan Patel(8-2-14-3)starved on the opening batsman for runs who seemed to be the only one carrying West Essex’s innings. Eventually, it was one big shot too many and Baldeep picked up that all important wicket. However, Parks knew they still had wickets to get, and a game to win. Dilan Patel bowled excellently for his three wickets, as did Baldeep Mann, both drying up the runs significantly and suddenly the pendulum was swinging Parks’ way. However a partnership was starting to form between both batsman at numbers 7 and 9, and Parks were in a situation where we needed a breakthrough and Matthew Holland provided just that, an excellent run out of their number 7 batsman who was just starting to get a move on and put doubt into Parks’ minds. Seth Rashid Malick carried on from his opening spell and showed that he was still able to bowl well with the old ball. He ended with great figures of 5.5-0-26-3, eventually picking up the final wicket that led Parks 2XI to their 3rd win of the season, a great way to finish off the season.
