Match report OPCC 4’s Lost to Wanstead 4’s by 40 runs.

Weather condition did not match the time of the year. Cloudy & windy. Pitch was wet. Parks elected to bowl first. Parks started well and kept the opposition down. Opening bowlers Nav Kelley & Shankar Manicks did a fantastic job, as they usually do. Wanstead struggled to score runs and lost 2 wickets in first 15 overs. Old Parks were in total control. What followed basically changed the course of the game. 2 dropped catches and poor bowling, allowing now well-settled young batsman to punish bad balls. There were plenty of bad balls. Both batsman went to score 95 & 73. Parks failed to protect the boundaries from 20 overs onward. This meant instead of giving away Mostly 1s and 2s we gave away 4s. Wanstead seize the opportunity and went on to score 200 for loss of 5 wickets. (2 Run-outs)

Santron Thivaharan and Nikhil Mukherjee opened the batting. Santron Thivaharan battled well and scored 24. Yashesh Patel was promoted to number 3 and did a very good job. He upped the tempo and attacked the bowlers with power, scoring 42. His run rate was good and we needed the same from the rest of Parks. Unfortunately this never happened. Lack of invention, poor running between the wickets and disciplined & controlled bowling from the opposition restricted parks run rate. Opposition were also helped by poor lighting towards the end. Skipper George scoring another 50 allowing Parks to get to a decent score. Parks batted 40 overs, scoring 160 for loss of 6 wickets.

This game should have been much tighter. Parks are better than this. We must learn from this. Utilizing all the players well, disciplined bowling and better field positioning will go longways to fix what we are going through. We have what it takes.
