Match report Oakfield suffered a setback at the start of this Cox & Kings group match losing their opening batsman through illness; they also lost the toss and were put into bat. Andrien Amirthanayagan was promoted up the order and together with Reuben Chandy they set about the Walthamstow bowlers; having amassed 30 runs each both batsmen retired leaving a solid foundation on which the Oakfield innings was built. Skipper Talha Raja played some fine shots before being bowled on 25 and Samuel Varnes playing every ball as if it was to be dispatched to the boundary reached 30 before retiring. Ali Khan (15*) and Arya Karthikeyan saw out the 20 overs which left Oakfield with 143 runs on the board for the loss of only two wickets.
Oakfield’s bowlers applied early pressure with Karandeep Bansel (3-0-19-1) hitting the stumps with his second ball. A run out by Samuel in the second over left Walthamstow reeling on 3 for 2 off 2. Wickets continued to fall with 5 more batsmen being clean bowled, the pick of the bowlers being Sujeev Suganthan who finished with outstanding figures of 4-0-8-3; there were also wickets for brothers Talha 3-0-13-1, and Zubair Raja 4-0-14-1. Walthamstow's innings finished after 20 overs on 89 for the loss of 7 wickets.
Oakfield win by 54 runs with all looking forward to next week’s top of the table clash with Wanstead.
