Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 20 Runs

Match report Oakfield got their Matchplay campaign underway by winning the toss and deciding to bat against visitors Iford . The bowlers struggled to find their rhythm early on with extras keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Amanjit Singh (1) was the first to depart in the fifth over with the score on 23; Sujeev Suganthan (4) stayed in support of Reuben Chandy before being caught in the tenth, which brought Talha Raja to the crease for a 68 run partnership which ended when Reuben was given run out on 41. Talha and Samuel Varnes accelerated the run rate and put on 54 before Talha was bowled on 24 with Oakfield on 166. Samuel had reached 35 when he was given out lbw which left Suleman Shaheen (13*) and the tail to see the inning out; with a wicket on the last ball Oakfield were all out for 204 off 40 overs.
The Ilford batsmen played cautiously under pressure from opening bowlers Suleman (8-1-29-1) and Talha (7-1-16-1) and at the first change after ten overs Ilford only had 27 runs on the board; this was the start Oakfield had wanted. Sujeev Suganthan (4-0-19-1) was Oakfield’s partnership breaker, a superb catch for keeper Samuel. Ilford were always behind the run rate and were kept under pressure from the bowlers, there were wickets for spinner Zubair Raja (8-1-27-1), Amanjit (4-0-30-2), one a fine catch by Adarssh Athithan and Jamie Bailey (4-0-24-1).
After 40 overs Ilford had reached 184 for 7 wickets, a win for Oakfield by 20 runs.
