West Essex 3rd v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 03 Aug 2019 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 26 runs

Match report Parks travelled to E17 to face the league topers West Essex for the crunch match of the season between the top two teams chasing the single promotional spot.

Parks lost the toss once again and asked to bat on a green looking pitch. Parks’ openers started the proceedings cautiously against a very good opening pace attack. When Bhavik Trivedi ran himself out early on and with few more wickets going cheaply, Parks found themselves at 60-4 after 16 overs. West Essex’s top four bowlers bawled with pace and accuracy and Parks looked for a partnership to steady the ship. Enter vice captain Maran Mariyathas and skipper Gurmit Bhatia to do just that. Both players played with natural flare and impetus to accelerate the innings. Gurmit in particular was in a devastating mood punishing any loose balls scoring all around the wicket finishing with a solid 78.

When Maran departed for a well made 27, Gurmit was joined by the smiling assassin Keerthi ‘Kit-Kat’ Thangavel who went on his merry way to smash West Essex bowlers to all parts from the get-go scoring a quick fire 43 not out including 4 enormous sixes. This helped Parks to end their innings on a high, setting a respectable target of 226.

After the tea, West Essex started their innings very well racing to 35 in just 6 overs. Inform opening bowler Jigar Desai made the initial breakthrough taking two quick wickets but West Essex’s number 2 and number 4 batsman formed a solid partnership which started to look dangerous. At this point Parks captain turned to the experienced Andrew Beaven who responded with 3 wickets all caught by Nimanka in the deep. One catch in particular where Nimanka has to run 15 meters to the right to take a one handed diving catch is worthy of the catch of the season award. A truly outstanding effort by Nimanka.

Jigar Desai came back for his 2nd spell to clean up the tail finishing with outstanding figures of 6 - 28. He was well supported by Keerthi on the other.

This was a fantastic win for Parks against the strongest team in the league. Chance of a promotion is still on
the cards if Parks win their remaining 4 matches with few other results going their way.
