Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 67 runs

Match report Parks won the toss and decided to bat first on a very hot day and flat wicket. S. Maniyath got Parks off to a quick start with a quick 18 before being caught at gully by a brilliant diving catch. R. Chandy (7) and I. Bhatia (19) steadied the ship but both soon fell bring Parks to 54-3 after 17 overs. J. Vijay (18) and U. Rafiq (19) soon arrived at the crease and took Parks to 90-4 before J. Vijay inside edged it on to his stumps. G. Jeevakumar came in and really changed the pace of the game scoring a quickfire 66 putting on a strong partnership with U. Rafiq of 70 runs. However, in Parks fashion, 4 wickets fell within 3 overs and Parks looked to struggle at 160-9. In came the brothers T. Raja (22) and Z. Raja (16 n/o) who put on a real show playing an incredibly patient innings a taking the team to a respectable total of 215. Park knew they had a big task ahead playing league leaders Ilford and really had to turn up with the bowling.
G. Jeevakumar (10-2-27-0) came steaming in to open the bowling and kept it very tight and was unfortunate to not get a wicket. Ilford looked to get on top with a strong opening partnership of 46 before T. Raja (10-1-22-2) broke through and took the first wicket. At 74-1 we knew we needed another wicket to build some pressure on them with I. Bhatia (13-4-31-3) bowling an excellent into the middle order and putting Ilford on to the backfoot. Z. Raja (10-2-30-2) came on and put on a strong spell of leg spin bowling however, Parks’ effort was not enough as Ilford managed to hold on with 7 wickets down. With Wickford winning this week, they only fall 1 point behind Parks and therefore, these final 2 games will be the absolute decider on promotion this season.
