Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 92 runs

Match report It was the last game of the 2019 season and Oakfield Parkonians knew they needed to win this game in order to stay up. Returning skipper Paran won the toss and elected to bat first with the hope that Parks would get 25 points and win the game. Openers Neil and Faisal did well saw off the new ball and kept the run rate at a substantial level. Most Parks batsmen found it hard to get settled in on the wicket. However, the partnership between Tarun (22) and Sarankan (37) off 45 meant Parks would secure batting points for reaching 175 and ended their innings on 184 all out.

This was a score that the team were confident in defending as they knew that anything over 160 on a very difficult batting track would be hard to chase down. Parks had a minimum of 45 overs to bowl at Shenfield in order to get 10 wickets and maintain their premiership status. Opening bowlers Tarun and Paresh bowled well and good lines, however they weren't troubling the batsmen. The Shenfield opening pair seemed as though they were batting on a different wicket and with the sun beaming down it seemed as though the wicket was going to flatten up and get easier for Shenfield. The ball was then thrown to Ravi Raval (16-7-25-5) in the hope that he could make the breakthrough along with Faisal. When Shenfield reached 60 runs for no wicket Parks looked in trouble. However, 4 wickets and conceding 2 runs meant Shenfield went from 60-0 to 62-4 in the space of 3 overs. Ravi was the pick of the bowlers, he was well backed up by skipper Paran (6.3-4-15-4). However, needing one wicket and 3 overs left it looked as if the result was going to be a draw. However, Parans 3rd ball of his 7th over bowled the last remaining batsmen and meant that Parks had won. From 60-0 to 94 all out Parks had pulled it off when it didn't seem likely. The team showed magnificent team spirit and drive to ensure that we won this game and retained our place in the premiership. Well done to all involved and let's hope that now people are accustomed to the standard of the premiership the team next year will be better prepared to compete in the league.
