Wickford v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 22 Jun 2019 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Parks travelled to Wickford on a pleasant summer’s day looking to continue their recent good form. On a good looking pitch the toss was duly lost and Wickford wanted first use of the conditions, in a no brainer decision.

The opening bowlers bowled well with little luck. It soon became clear the track and conditions were good for batting so patient cricket and good fielding were the order of the day. The Parks unit kept working hard in the field and did all they could to help the bowlers. When Wickford looked set to accelerate and go big, a superb bowling partnership between Eshun Kalley and Shawn Tuitt (8-41-4) meant they restricted the runs and no onslaught came. Shawn in particular shone with 4 wickets bowling great to pick wickets up, which of course stemmed the run rate. Selvam Ramasamy(8-31-3) also bowled great to snare 3 wickets and ensured no explosion at the end. Wickford posted a good 256 which would take some chasing but not out of reach.

Parks started great with Shawn Tuitt getting Parks of to a flyer with 46 runs of 30 balls. He was ably supported by Dhruv Patel who batted sensibly for his 33 to ensure a nice start. However, at 134-3 things looked tricky and with the run rate req hovering at 6 this was going to take some getting. Then the match winning partnership started between Ravi Teja and Eshun Kalley, who indulged in a superb 111 partnership. These 2 together have shared a few great partnerships this year and they did it again with superb shots and simply electric running between the wickets were they seemed to have developed a great understanding. Eshun in particular glowed with 48 of 51 balls with composure and brilliant shot selection and execution. Its fantastic to see a young talent take the talent to actually now produce serious results and match winning performances for the team, fantastic for all at the club involved in his development to become a serious cricket player, no doubt many will feel proud. Ravi Teja of course was pure class but also had to work hard in a tough chase against a very spirited and skilled Wickford. Ravi ended up with 99 of 105 ball and won the match in the penultimate over with a pinged 6. Credit to Wickford who bowled superb and tested parks right to the end. A tough game of cricket played to a high standard which Parks just came out on top in.

Thus parks have now won 4 out of the last 5 games and now sit 1 point of second. If we continue our processes and get the results, the league table position will look after itself. The squad strength came to the fore today, as any changes don’t seem to weaken the team as various players step up, showing the depth in the ones squad. We travel to Horndon on the Hill next week hopeful to make it 5 from 6.
