Match report OPCC 6th XI lost by 170 runs to Star CC.

With the sun shining bright, Oakfield Parkonians made history on Saturday. 112 years since inception the club lead out 6 teams on Saturday for the first time. Captain Kumaran Ravendradas lead out a side mixed with some seasoned veterans and some young colts from the Parkonians’ wonderful colts set up.

They played on a hard, dry surface at Fords, Oakfield’s adopted home for the 5th and 6th teams. Star CC won the toss and decided to take advantage of the wonderful batting conditions. Despite some tight bowling early on from veteran Andrew Beaven and youngster Saajan Bansel, Star slowly accumulated runs. Zayd Ahmed did manage to get two early wickets thanks to some brilliant catching by Pranav Khetia.

Star carried on building a huge total. Star’s Dara anchored the innings before getting bowled out for 91 by Jamie Bailey. Dara’s middle order partners ensured they reached 264 off their allotted 40 overs but the fantastic bowling by Jamie Bailey, who got his best figures of 4 for 52, and Pranav Khetia who only allowed 25 runs of his 7 overs made sure Star were restricted in the final overs. Including the bowling of Jamie and Pranav, the Parks’ fielding must receive great credit. Young Amanjit Singh and Zayd Ahmed proving to be lightning fielders at cover and mid-wicket. Keeper H Berlin and Pirratheesh at slip took some sharp chances.

So it was left to the Parks batsman to chase a target than didn’t seem unreasonable. Sadly It wasn’t to be as the dry pitch started to deteriorate and Star’s bowlers took advantage with the new ball. Parks top order were all dismissed quickly with misbehaving deliveries. It was looking like Parks will be dismissed cheaply however young Amanjit Singh and Zayd Ahmed carried on where they left of in the field. Both of them applied themselves well and top scored with 22 and 32 respectively. Sadly, It was the pitch that won however as the ball continued to misbehave and Parkonians were all out for just 96.



Star CC with a dominant win however the scores did not reflect some of the great cricket played by the young Colts of Parkonians.
