Match report On another damp wicket Park’s Captain Gurmit Bhatia lost the toss, and was asked to bat first. Park’s knew that the conditions were going to make batting very difficult early on, and so it proved to be. Both openers George Christian & Shahid Khan struggled to cope with the damp pitch and Hutton’s excellent opening bowling pair. George & Shahid departed without troubling the scoreboard, and in the first 10 overs Park’s only managed to get 12 runs. Hutton then changed bowlers, and Bhavik Trivedi went on a rampage by knocking a hurricane 47 (8 fours & 2 sixes). With the fall of Bhavik’s wickets Gurmit Bhatia joined his Vice Captain Maran Mariyathas, with both batsman playing the bowlers on merit. Maran anchored the innings with a superb 43, but then Park’s lost a few cheap wickets, and looking vulnerable to being dismissed for under 150. Fortunately for Park’s, Gurmit was perfectly supported by the lower order with Abdul Usman staying with his captain for the last 6 overs, allowing for Gurmit to really take the attack to the opposition, and by doing so helping Park’s to a respectful 224 for 9 of the allotted 40 overs. Gurmit remaining not out for 76 (11 fours & 3 sixes).

In reply, the run chase was an excellent one by Hutton, with fortunes changing from one side to the other throughout. However, in the end Park’s managed to hold their nerves and bowl Hutton out for 211 in the 39th over. The star bowling performance today was without a shadow of doubt young Abdul Usman who took 4 wickets for 21 runs of his 8 overs; simply a match winning performance. Park’s veteran Vijay Vijatnathan chipped in with 2 wickets, and Nimanka De Silva got 1 wicket. The remaining wickets were attributed to 3 excellent run outs.

With no league game next week, Parks can have a bit of a rest, have their batteries recharged for the week after, when the fag end of the season starts, and we return to the timed format playing conditions.
