Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost By 3 runs

Match report Stand in skipper Nav Kalley lost the toss and Westcliff elected to bat first. Under cloudy skies, Parks had high hopes of bowling out the opposition for a low score and they got off to a good start having the opposition 3 downs for very few runs with both opening bowlers getting wickets. Nav Kalley was his usual frugal self (9-4-8-2) and was well supported by Matt Holland (9-2- 40-1) but then a partnership between I. Madan (38) and T. Wade (88) got Westcliff’s innings going and a big score looked on the cards. However, some late wickets by Jaydeep (7-1-36-2) and Inderpreet Bhatia (3-0-19-2) restricted Westcliff to 201 for 8 off their allotted 45 overs and the Park went into tea fairly happy with their efforts.
In reply, the Parks got off to the worst possible start and were soon 11 for 2 after 4 overs and the target looks a million miles but then an excellent partnership of 146 between Dan Shalom and Usman Rafiq put the Parks right back in the game. Dan was particularly brutal and his 78 included fourteen 4s and he was well supported by Usman, whose 41 included six 4s. Parks were 157 for 2 and only needed 48 off 8 overs and with 8 wickets in hand this looked like a forgone conclusion. However, both Dan and Usman departed one after the other and then some poor batting and good bowling by Westcliff saw the Parks snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as they lost 8 wickets for 44 runs and lost the game by 3 runs.
The game was played in an excellent spirit and credit must go to Westcliff for their win as they fought right to the end and the Parks need to get this out of their system as they face top of the table Belhus next week and the result will go a long way to decide which 2 teams win promotion.
