Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 57 runs

Match report OPCC lost the toss and were asked to bat first on what look like a bowler friendly green wicket in overcast conditions. Despite the conditions, the Parks started well and were 79-1 after only 11 overs and looked to post a big total. However, a quick fluster of wickets saw the Parks reduced to 93-4 and they looked in some bother but the captain, Jibran Azam, was still there having passed 50 and he took the score to 129 before he too was out for a very well made 74, which included eight 4s and four 6s. Things went from bad to worse as 129 for 4 soon became 145 for 6 but the Parks demonstrated their depth in batting as first Dave Rai and Eshun Kalley put on 51 for the seventh wicket before Dave was out for 28 (four 4s) and then Eshun and Baldeep Mann put together a 62 run partnership before Eshun was caught for 48 (five 4s and one 6) but Baldeep continues to add to the total and remained on 35no (three 4s and one 6) and this late hitting allowed the Parks to finish on 262 for 8 off their allotted 50 overs, a total which seemed very unlikely at the half way stage.
After tea, the Parks started well with Selvam Ramasamy taking a very early wicket and this set the tone for the rest of the innings as wickets fell on a regular basis and Leigh on Sea never really looked like chasing down the score and they were all bowled out for 205 in the 46th over. This was a great all-rounder team effort as the wickets were evenly shared between Selvam (8-2-33-2), Glen Sasikaren (8-0-36-2), Abdul Razzaq (10-4-53-1), Baldeep (3-0-19-2), Ramya Upadhyay (10-4-15-2) and the captain himself taking a wicket off his very first ball to end the opposition’s innings. This was a great team effort and really demonstrated the all-round strength in depth as everyone contributed with either the bat or ball or in Baldeep’s case, both. The win takes the Parks back up to 2nd, only 21 behind Belhus and next week they are away to the team directly below them (Gidea Park & Romford) and should be another great game.
