Match report Old Parkonians friendly against Old Southendians at Oakfield was abandoned on Saturday due to rain with the match set fair.

Winning the toss and electing to put their fellow old boys into bat under laden skies, Parks made an encouraging start restricting Southendians to 92-3 from 33 overs.

Thanks to Jonathan James carrying his bat for an unbeaten 93 and 35 from 21 balls from Chris Sawyer, the visitors were able to reach 218-6 declared from 52 overs. Kevin Hughes bowled a marathon 20 overs collecting a well deserved 3-54 for his hard efforts, whilst Kris Bostock chipped in with 2-73.

Parkonians made a solid start in reply moving to 44-0 inside 10 overs but then lost openers John Richards (19) and Bobby Curtis (13) in successive overs without addition to the score before the rain arrived causing the abandonment.

With two warm-up matches under their belt, Parks begin their SNEL campaign at home to Walthamstow this Saturday (13th) in a local derby.
