Match report A gutting 14-run defeat to Ilford summed up a game of fine margins, as Parkonians fell agonisingly short in a chase they had every chance of winning — undone by a top-order collapse they could never fully recover from.

Ilford's innings was built almost entirely around Dhruv Saini, who batted through the majority of the 45 overs for a composed and controlled 99 off 137 balls. For large stretches it appeared Parkonians had the innings under control, and credit must go to Jigar Desai, who was outstanding with figures of 3 for 18 from 9 overs including 4 maidens — a masterclass in accuracy and discipline. However, the back end of the Ilford innings proved costly. Anwar Zeb, who had caused carnage with the bat, returned to claim 3 for 37 with the ball, and Waqas Younis took 3 for 41 to complete a fine all-round day for Ilford. Parkonians were eventually bowled out for 212, falling 14 runs short.

On another day, this is a game Parkonians win. The bowling — led brilliantly by Jigar Desai — kept Ilford to a gettable total, but the batting collapse at the top handed the initiative to the opposition and the side could not quite claw it back. Converting starts and weathering early pressure will be crucial if Parkonians are to mount a serious promotion challenge.
